Opening a Data File

To open a data file, Classic Data File Tools must be able to identify the file type and the record type and lengths. For non-indexed files, this information can be read from a profile file, or supplied as prompted. For variable-length sequential or relative files, and for indexed files, this information is read from the file header. See Data File Profiles for more information

Note:
  • You cannot open a data file if you have the Back up file before editing configuration option checked, but do not have sufficient space for the backup file.
  • To avoid modifying data accidentally, you can open a file as read only.
