The HP Service Asset and Configuration Management (“SACM”) solution lays the data foundation that enables IT to derive cost, IT policy compliance and operational information required for IT to make intelligent sourcing decisions.
SACM was first introduced in ITIL version 3 when Configuration Management became “Service Asset” Configuration in support of a Services-led IT philosophy and methodology. ITIL defines SACM as a process that manages the service assets in support of the other Service Management processes. According to ITIL, SACM’s objective is to define and control the components of services and infrastructure and maintain accurate configuration information on the historical, planned and current state of the services and infrastructure.
The HP SACM solution enables the IT organization to tightly link the activities and investments of IT Asset Management and Configuration Management, accurately record and track the various costs associated with delivering IT Services, and maintain an accurate picture of the organization’s IT infrastructure used throughout the IT Service Management processes.
