To start an enterprise server

  1. In the table of servers on the Home page of Enterprise Server Administration, find the row for the server that you want to start, and click Start in the Current Status column.

A screen is displayed indicating the server details and security configuration information. This screen also gives you the option of specifying operating system and Enterprise Server security credentials to be used. For more about security credentials, see Configuring Credentials for Starting and Stopping Enterprise Servers.

  2. Click OK.

The Home page of Enterprise Server Administration is displayed, and the value in Current Status for this server changes to "Starting". If you have Show local console checked on the Edit Server page, the enterprise server console daemon window appears indicating the progress of the process of starting the server.

  3. After a few seconds click Refresh on the Home page.

The value in Current Status changes to "Started".

Note:

If the server remains in the "Starting" state for a prolonged time the reason might be that it has encountered an unrecoverable error but the server process remains active. In this case click Details to go to the Server > Control page, then click Stop Server to shut down the unsuccessful server process. Alternatively it might have encountered an unrecoverable error during the startup process and shut down without informing the Directory Server. In this case you can restart it using Start Server on the Server > Control page.
