Distributed processing is an integral part of the XDB Server architecture. It allows a session concurrent access to multiple locations. In conjunction with the multilocation architecture, support is provided for three-part object names (location-name.authid.object-name). These features allow users to access data outside of their default locations (restricted only by the security measures that have been implemented).
In a LAN environment, the locations can be distributed across various volumes on a network simply by specifying the desired path name when creating the location. Support of stogroups provides further opportunity to physically organize databases and tables (using table spaces) on specific volumes. Installation of XDB Link adds to the distributed processing capabilities by providing a transparent connection to a mainframe DB2 location using the Distributed Relational Database Architecture (DRDA) protocol.
