IFileshare (Technology Preview)

Note: This is a technology preview feature only. It is being made available to allow you to test and provide feedback on this new capability; however, this feature is not intended for production use and it is not supported as such. Furthermore, Micro Focus does not guarantee that this feature will be delivered at a GA level and if it is, then the functionality provided might differ considerably from this technology preview. If you want to test, and provide feedback on this feature, please contact Micro Focus SupportLine for instructions on how to enable the new functionality.

Fileshare support running under Enterprise Server is provided using iFileshare (integrated Fileshare). You can configure iFileshare in its own Enterprise Server region, or you can add the capability to an existing Enterprise Server region. This configuration should replace your stand-alone Fileshare configuration.

A more robust configuration than an iFileshare server running in single mode is one running in a high availability group. A high availability group consists of a primary iFileshare server and a stand-by server (there are plans to increase the number of stand-by servers you can have). Data files within the primary iFileshare server are replicated to the stand-by server. In the event of your primary server failing, you have an up-to-date copy (minus any in-flight transactions) of your data files. In future releases, fail-over will be automated, seamlessly switching to a new primary server without missing any transactions.

Using these new Fileshare configurations, instead of a standalone Fileshare configuration, gives you the following benefits:

Control
Control and monitoring of the iFileshare process is driven through ESMAC, which centralizes the control of the Fileshare process within Enterprise Server Administration.
Performance
Scheduling of work for iFileshare is handled by Enterprise Server rather than relying on the network protocol scheduling that a standalone Fileshare uses; the benefit is a more scalable solution that is able to cope with heavier loads more efficiently.
Security
User authentication at log-on is handled by Enterprise Server-provided security, and not Fileshare's own security modules.
Recoverability
Using iFileshare opens up the opportunity to use Micro Focus' High Availability configuration, which provides fail-over support for files critical to your application.
