Navigate a Data File

There are a number of techniques that enable you to navigate around the data file.

From the Micro Focus Data File Tools window, click File > Open, or click (Open File).
The Open dialog box appears.
Navigate to the required data file, then click Open.
The Open Data File dialog box appears.
If you are applying a record layout, click Browse to the right of the Structure File (optional) field, then use the Open dialog box to navigate to and select the structure (.str) file that contains the layout.
Click Open Shared (to open the file in read-only mode) or Open Exclusive (to open the file in edit mode).
The file is displayed on its own tab in the main window.
You can navigate through the records using one of the following techniques:
- To move through the records, use the cursor keys.
- To move forwards or back a page, click and .
  
  Note: Each page contains a maximum of 100 records, configurable from the Preferences dialog box.
- To jump directly to a record, click (Go to) then enter the record number in the Record Number field and click OK; alternatively, click the record in the Data File pane.
