Micro Focus products include a varied set of facilities for problem analysis. These diagnostic facilities are the result of numerous
implementations, and the realization that different sorts of problems can occur, each requiring its own type of approach.
As a minimum, we recommend that anyone involved in a COBOL implementation should know, for each diagnostic tool or technique:
- What it does
- How to configure it
- What output is produced, and where to find it
Depending on the type of problem, you might need to use more than one diagnostic tool to pinpoint what led to the failure.
Attention: Perhaps the most useful diagnostic tool is the
Micro Focus Debugger. For complete information on this important tool, see
Debugging COBOL Applications.
Note: We have documented each diagnostic tool such that you should be able to analyze the output and resolve problems yourself in
some circumstances.
In cases where you are unable to do this, raise a
OpenText Support for Micro Focus Products case for additional help. See
Reporting a Problem for complete information.
