Using the SNMP Audit Emitter (deprecated)

Note: Audit Manager is deprecated and provided for backward compatibility only. We recommend that you use syslog events instead. See Enterprise Server Auditing for more information.
Restriction: This topic applies only when the Enterprise Server feature is enabled.

To use the SNMP Emitter, you must:

  1. Configure the SNMP Agent to emit Trap messages to a monitoring Management Tool location. To do this:
    1. Configure the SNMP Emitter to tell the Agent the location of the Management Tools that should receive the emitter Audit Events.
    2. If you are using the Net SNMP Agent, install the Micro Focus MIB file (see below) into the Net SNMP MIB database.
  2. Configure the Management Tool that is to monitor the trap output.
    1. Import the Micro Focus MIB file (see below) into the Management Tool's MIB database so that it can recognise the message content that it is going to receive from the Agent.
    2. Tell the Management Tool to accept SNMP Trap events from the location (and the port number if the Agent is not using default ports) of the originating Agent.

The Micro Focus MIB file, mf_audit_snmp.mib, is located in the %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Micro Focus\Visual COBOL\bin directory by default.

Note: Some MIB import tools require specific file extensions such as .mib or .mb, or just .txt. Ensure that you rename this file to match the requirements of your software before attempting to install the Micro Focus MIB extension.
Note: With the Microsoft WinSNMP Agent, the WinSNMP emitter will work without any further configuration beyond that contained in the audit configuration file.
