To start a Visual COBOL command prompt as an administrator

Restriction: This topic applies to Windows environments only.

Depending on the location of files created from a Visual COBOL command prompt, you might need to start it as an administrator. To do this:

Windows 7 and Earlier
  1. From your desktop, click Start > All Programs > Micro Focus Visual COBOL > Tools.
  2. Depending on your operating system, right-click either Visual COBOL Command Prompt (32-bit) or Visual COBOL Command Prompt (64-bit); then select Run as administrator from the context menu.
  3. If prompted, click Yes.
Windows 8, 8.1, and Windows Server 2012
  1. From the Start screen, right-click either the Visual COBOL Command Prompt (32-bit) or the Visual COBOL Command Prompt (64-bit) tile.
  2. On the bottom of the page, click Run as administrator.
  3. If prompted, click Yes.
Windows 10 and Later
  • Click Start > Micro Focus Visual COBOL > Visual COBOL, right-click Command Prompt (32-bit) or Visual COBOL Command Prompt (64-bit) and click More > Run as Administrator.
