An Enterprise Server installation consists of a Micro Focus Directory Server, and a number of enterprise server instances. An enterprise server instance provides a pool of pre-initialized service execution processes (SEPs), within which COBOL applications are executed.
When you install Enterprise Server, depending on the Micro Focus product, a number of enterprise server instances are automatically set up for you. You can create further enterprise server instances as required.
As an administrator, you log on to the Enterprise Server administration user interface operating on the Micro Focus Directory Server. From this user interface, you can configure installation-wide settings. From this user interface, you can also access the administration user interfaces for each enterprise server instance operating in the installation.
