Using CCITCP

Fileshare defaults to the TCP/IP (CCITCP) protocol. When using CCITCP, you can use either CCITCP Direct or the following process:

• Both the Fileshare Client and the Fileshare Server must have access to a registration process. Depending upon the product that has been installed there are two versions of the registration server called ccitcp2 or mfds the Micro Focus Directory Server.
• The registration process helps the Fileshare Client to locate the Fileshare Server.
• The registration process can be running on any machine that the Fileshare Client and Fileshare Server can contact. It does not have to be running on the same machine as either Fileshare Server or Fileshare Client.
• You must set the environment variable CCITCP2 to the host name of the machine where the ccitcp2 process is running.

  If you do not set the environment variable, CCITCP assumes that ccitcp2 is running on the local machine. The Fileshare Client and the Fileshare Server must register with the same ccitcp2 process in order to communicate with each other.

  For example, consider the situation where the Fileshare Server and the Fileshare Client are running on different machines and the ccitcp2 process is running on the same machine as the Fileshare Server. The environment variable CCITCP2 does not have to be set on the machine running the Fileshare Server. However, it must be set (on the machine running the Fileshare Client) to the TCP/IP host name of the machine where the Fileshare Server (and the ccitcp2 process) is running.

• By default both ccitcp2 and mfds will start on TCP (mfds only) and UDP port 86. Both registration processes may be started on different ports. If this has been done then you must set the environment variable CCITCP2_PORT to the decimal number of the port that is being used for the registration process.

  For example, consider the situation where mfds has been started with CCITCP2_PORT set to 2023, or using the -p 2023 option. You must set CCITCP2_PORT to 2023 on both the Fileshare Client and the Fileshare Server.
