You have specified an invalid TRAILING item in the INSPECT statement; you must specify a single character item.

For example: 

INSPECT long-str TALLYING my-counter for TRAILING "**".  *> this is incorrect

INSPECT long-str TALLYING my-counter for TRAILING "*".	 *> this is correct
