Applications developed using a COBOL development system require a COBOL run-time server to provide the necessary run-time system and support.
Server Enterprise Edition is your COBOL run-time server. It is supplied as part of Studio Enterprise Edition, which is your COBOL development system. Server Enterprise Edition is also supplied separately.
End users need to install COBOL run-time licenses before they can run applications that use the COBOL run-time system.
You need to:
- Ship Server Enterprise Edition with your application, if it is a modular application. We recommend that you ship the whole of Server Enterprise Edition to avoid compatibility issues and other problems.
- Ensure that the application you have developed has the proper Server Enterprise Edition licenses. Your end users need to install the licenses before they can run the application. You can help users with installing licenses by providing an appropriate installation and setup procedure.
- Let your users use the supplied setup program for Server Enterprise Edition. This program prompts the installer for the license key and for the location of the database. You can arrange for this information to be supplied silently, so that your end users do not have to enter it.
Alternatively, you can provide your own setup program for an application that uses Server Enterprise Edition. For example, you could write a setup program to install the application and Server Enterprise Edition together.
