All Micro Focus Server licenses that you install are stored on the license database. This database is created the first time a Micro Focus Server license is installed. The database is held in the file mfasdb, which resides in the directory c:\mfaslmf by default.
You do not have to know about the database, apart from whether to set one up on your machine or whether to use one on a network server. Your organization might have a policy on this. A networked license database can make maintaining licenses easier, but the disadvantage is that the network server has to be up and running whenever you want to run your application. Also, Enterprise Server cannot access a database across a network, so such a database enables only the base Micro Focus Server.
You cannot change the database content, except by using AppTrack to install or remove licenses. Keys on the database are in encrypted format, and can only be seen by users through AppTrack. Access to AppTrack can be restricted by its optional password system.
You can have only one active license database on a machine. You cannot move it once it is created. You can however create another database and use this instead of the original, but if you have any licenses installed in the original database, you will need to reinstall them in the new database.
To find out the location of the existing license database or to set up a new license database, use the aslmpclocate utility.
