If a PlateSpin Migrate Connector is available to the project, you can use the Import option to import workloads and leverage a discovery process to add details about them:
Specify an IPv4 address or FQDN to import and discover details for a single workload.
Specify a range of IPv4 addresses to import and discover details for up to 256 workloads at a time.
A workload can have only one instance in a transformation project. If a workload already exists in the project, the discovery process is not performed for it. The discovery also ignores non-computer networked devices.
Users Who Can Perform This Task: System Administrator, Project Manager, Project Architect |
The Import dialog for single, list, or range import requires the following information:
Select the parent organization for the project.
Select the parent project for the workload.
(Optional) Specify a brief description of the workload or range of workloads. This text appears by default in the Workloads list. For a Range Import, the description is associated with each workload discovered in that range.
Specify a single address or a range of addresses:
Single: Specify the IP address or fully qualified domain name for the workload. PTM uses this information to discover and communicate with the workload. A workload can have only one instance in a transformation project.
Examples:
Range: Specify the first IPv4 address in the workload range, then specify the fourth octet value for the last IPv4 address in the range. Valid values for the range octet are 0 to 255. PTM uses this information to discover and communicate with the workloads.
Examples:
PTM uses the credentials to discover and communicate with the workload. You can specify 1 to 4 Credentials resources to try. The import tries each specified Credentials resource. At least one of the specified Credentials resources must be valid in order for discovery to succeed.
You can specify a single IPv4 address or FQDN to import and discover details for a single workload.
To import a single workload:
In the Web Interface, select Planning in the toolbar, then select the Workloads tab.
Select Import.
In the Import a Workload dialog, specify the following information:
Organization
Project
Description
IP or FQDN
Examples:
Credential
Specify 1 to 4 Credentials resources to try.
If necessary, you can create up to four new Credential resources to use for the import.
On the Credential drop-down list, click Create.
Select the Credential Type: Linux Administrator, Windows Administrator, or Windows Domain.
Specify the authentication information.
Click Save to create the Credential resource and add it in the Import Workloads dialog.
Click Import.
Click Close to return to the Workloads list.
In the Workloads list, monitor the discovery status for the workload.
(Discovery Failed) If discovery fails, pause over the workload status to understand the problem, then resolve the issues and retry discovery.
You can specify a range of IPv4 addresses to import and discover details for up to 256 workloads at a time.
To import workloads in a specified IP address range:
In the Web Interface, select Planning in the toolbar, then select the Workloads tab.
Select Import.
In the Import a Range of Workloads dialog, specify the following information:
Organization
Project
Description
IP or FQDN
Specify the first IP address in the range and last octet in the range.
Examples:
Credential
Specify 1 to 4 Credentials resources to try against each workload in the range.
Click Import.
(Optional) Click Import Progress to monitor the discovery progress.
Click Close to return to the Workloads list.
o(For up to 24 hours) In the Workloads list, click Import Progress to monitor the discovery progress.
Progress is tracked for all imports during the the prior 24 hours. See Section 15.7, Viewing Import Progress.
(Discovery Failed) If discovery fails, pause over the workload status to understand the problem, then resolve the issues and retry discovery for the failed workload.
