Use the information in this section to understand the supported configurations for workloads and platforms, depending on your planning and migration goals.
PlateSpin Transformation Manager supports discovery of details for Windows workloads and Linux workloads running on x86 and x64 architectures.
NOTE:For automation and tracking, PTM supports the operating systems that are supported by PlateSpin Migrate. See Supported Configurations
in the PlateSpin Migrate 2019.2 User Guide.
A variety of operating systems and versions are preconfigured in the Operating Systems list in the PTM Web Interface. A user with Administrator privileges can configure custom operating system names and versions to be presented globally to all projects. See Configuring Operating Systems
in the PTM 2019.2 Administrator Guide.
PlateSpin Transformation Manager supports discovery of resource details for the platforms listed in Table 1-2.
NOTE:For automation and tracking, the target platforms must additionally be supported by PlateSpin Migrate. See Supported Configurations
in the PlateSpin Migrate 2019.2 User Guide.
Table 1-2 Supported Platforms for Discovery
Platform |
Remarks |
---|---|
VMware vCenter Servers |
Supported VMware environments:
Discovery is performed by PlateSpin Migrate Connector instance that has access to the network for the target platforms. |
Microsoft Azure cloud environments |
Supported Cloud environments:
Discovery is performed by PTM using HTTPS queries for the user account through the appropriate Azure portal. |
Amazon Web Services cloud environments |
Supported Cloud environments:
Discovery is performed by PTM using HTTPS queries for the user account through the appropriate AWS portal. |
PlateSpin Transformation Manager supports planning for migration of any Windows and Linux workload. Migration automation and tracking capabilities depend on the supported configurations for PTM and PlateSpin Migrate. For configuration requirements based on migration type, see Table 1-3.
NOTE:For automation and tracking of migrations, PlateSpin Migrate validates the source workload and target platform combinations that it supports.

Source workloads |
Windows and Linux operating systems supported by PlateSpin Migrate for migration to the target platform |
Refer to the following information in the PlateSpin Migrate 2019.2 User Guide:
NOTE:Migration of workloads to a target platform is subject to the support of the guest operating system on the target host by the host vendor. |

Source workloads |
Any Windows and Linux operating system supported by PlateSpin Migrate for migration to the target platform |
Refer to the following information in the PlateSpin Migrate 2019.2 User Guide: Tracking is initiated when an imported workload in PTM matches a workload on a PlateSpin Migrate Server that is associated with the same project. After tracking begins, the source workload information is display-only in PTM. |
Target platforms |
Any target platform supported by PlateSpin Migrate |
Refer to the following information in the PlateSpin Migrate 2019.2 User Guide: NOTE:Target platform information is display-only in PTM for Manual (tracking) mode. The level of detail available depends on whether the migration is configured in the PlateSpin Migrate Web Interface or in the PlateSpin Migrate Client. See Section 17.1, About Tracking External Migrations. PlateSpin Transformation Manager does not support association of target platforms with source workloads in Manual (Tracking) mode. |
Target platforms for enhanced tracking |
VMware vCenter, Azure, and AWS versions supported by PlateSpin Migrate |
For enhanced tracking, you can optionally discover platforms for VMware, Azure, and Amazon Web Services. For tracking mode, PTM makes platform resource information available to your project for reference only. You can view associations between the platform resources and tracked workloads. Refer to the following information in the PlateSpin Migrate 2019.2 User Guide: |
