Use the information in this section to understand the supported configurations for workloads and platforms, depending on your planning and migration goals.
PlateSpin Transformation Manager supports discovery of details for Windows workloads and Linux workloads running on x86 and x64 architectures. A variety of operating systems and versions are preconfigured in the Operating Systems list in the PTM Web Interface.
A user with Administrator privileges can configure custom operating system names and versions to be presented globally to all projects. See Configuring Operating Systems
in the PTM 2 Administrator Guide.
PlateSpin Transformation Manager supports discovery of resource details for the platforms listed in Table 1-2.
Table 1-2 Supported Platforms for Discovery
Platform |
Remarks |
---|---|
VMware vCenter Clusters |
Discovery is performed by PlateSpin Migrate Connector instance that has access to the network for the target platforms. |
VMware vCenter Clusters in VMware Cloud (VMC) in AWS |
Discovery is performed by PlateSpin Migrate Connector instance that has access to the network for the target platforms. |
Microsoft Azure cloud environments |
Supported Cloud environments:
Discovery is performed by PTM using HTTPS queries for the user account through the appropriate Azure portal. |
PlateSpin Transformation Manager supports planning for migration of any Windows and Linux workload. Migration automation and tracking capabilities depend on the supported configurations for PTM and PlateSpin Migrate. For configuration requirements based on migration type, see Table 1-3.
NOTE:For automation and tracking of migrations, PlateSpin Migrate validates the source workload and target platform combinations that it supports.

Windows and Linux operating systems supported by PlateSpin Migrate for migration to the target platform |
Refer to the following information in the PlateSpin Migrate 2018.11 User Guide:
NOTE:Migration of workloads to a target platform is subject to the support of the guest operating system on the target host by the host vendor. |

Source workloads |
Any Windows and Linux operating system supported by PlateSpin Migrate for migration to the target platform |
Refer to the following information in the PlateSpin Migrate 2018.11 User Guide: Tracking is initiated when an imported workload in PTM matches a workload on a PlateSpin Migrate Server that is associated with the same project. After tracking begins, the source workload information is display-only in PTM. |
Target platforms |
Any target platform supported by PlateSpin Migrate |
Refer to the following information in the PlateSpin Migrate 2018.11 User Guide: Target platform information is display-only in PTM. PlateSpin Transformation Manager does not support association of target platforms with source workloads in Manual (Tracking) transformation mode. You can optionally discover platforms for VMware and Azure, which makes platform resource information available to your project for reference only. |
