Toolbar properties

Toolbar properties affect the toolbar as a whole. One way to customize your toolbar is to give it a unique name. Using the Toolbar editor, you can enter a title for your Toolbar.

You can also choose color or monochrome, or you can change the size of the buttons.

Setting a toolbar's title

  1. Open a toolbar.

  2. Double-click an empty area of the toolbar.

    -or-

    From the Edit menu, choose Toolbar Properties.

  3. Type the desired title into the Toolbar Properties dialog box.

  4. Choose the OK button.

HINT:Type in the title that you want displayed at the top of the toolbar when it is loaded during a session and undocked.

Setting a toolbar's color

  1. In the main window, choose Toolbars from the View menu.

    This displays the Settings dialog box with the Toolbars category selected, and a list of available toolbar schemes displayed.

  2. Select the Color Buttons attribute if you want all toolbar buttons to be displayed in color.

    If this attribute is not selected, the buttons will display in monochrome.

  3. Choose the OK button.

Setting a toolbar's button size

  1. In the main window, choose Toolbars from the View menu.

    This displays the Settings dialog box with the Toolbars category selected, and a list of available toolbar schemes displayed.

  2. Select the Large Buttons attribute if you want all toolbar buttons to have large icons.

    If this attribute is not selected, the buttons will display smaller icons.

  3. Choose the OK button.

Toolbar Buttons and Separators

A toolbar is comprised of a series of buttons. When a user chooses a button (by clicking it using a mouse), that button will then perform a programmed action.

If your toolbar has many (more than three or four) buttons, try to organize them into similar groups. You can then place separators in between the groups.

Adding a button or separator on a toolbar

  1. Open a toolbar.

  2. From the Toolbar editor toolbar, click the type of object to place on the toolbar:

    The corresponding object type appears at the end of the toolbar. Until you assign an action to a toolbar button, a number appears on the button.

  3. Repeat the previous step until the toolbar contains all the buttons and separators that you need.

Customizing a toolbar button

  1. Open a toolbar.

  2. Double-click the button to which you want to assign the action.

    The Action page for that button opens.

  3. Select a Category and a Command from that Category for the button's action to be performed when the user selects the button.

  4. Type in a brief description in the field provided.

  5. Choose the Bitmap Button page.

  6. Type in the title of your button in the ToolTip field and select an accelerator key (optional).

  7. Choose the OK button.

Assigning a bitmap to a toolbar button

  1. Open a toolbar.

  2. Double-click the button to which you want to assign the bitmap.

    The Action page for that button opens.

  3. Choose the Customize button in the Bitmap group box.

    The Select Bitmap dialog box opens.

  4. Select a bitmap from the list, browse for a *.BMP file, or edit the existing bitmap.

  5. Choose the OK button.

    The button's bitmap appears next to the Customize button.

  6. Choose the OK button.

Moving a toolbar button or separator

  1. Open a toolbar.

  2. Select the button or separator that you want to move. You can move only one object at a time.

  3. Place the mouse pointer anywhere on the object except on the handles and hold down the left the mouse button.

  4. Drag the object until it is positioned where you want it on the toolbar.

  5. Release the mouse button.

Cutting a toolbar button or separator

  1. Open a toolbar.

  2. Select the object(s) that you want to cut.

  3. From the Edit menu, choose Cut.

    The selected object is removed from the toolbar, but remains on the Windows Clipboard until you cut or copy a different object.

Copying a toolbar button or separator

  1. Open a toolbar.

  2. Select the object(s) that you want to copy.

  3. From the Edit menu, choose Copy.

  4. To paste the copied object, choose Paste from the Edit menu and drag the copy to the desired location.

    The copy has all the attributes of the original object.

  5. If you copied a button, double-click the button and assign the desired action to it.

Pasting a toolbar button or separator

  1. Open a toolbar.

  2. Select the desired toolbar object.

  3. From the Edit menu, choose Cut.

    -or-

    From the Edit menu, choose Copy.

  4. From the Edit menu, choose Paste, then drag the object to the desired location.

    You can paste a cut or copied toolbar object in a different location or in a different toolbar.

Deleting a toolbar button or separator

  1. Open a toolbar.

  2. Select the object(s) that you want to delete.

  3. Press the DELETE key.

    -or-

    From the Edit menu, choose CLEAR.

Resizing a toolbar

  1. Open a toolbar.

  2. From the Layout menu, choose Resize to Fit.

    The toolbar is reduced to the smallest size that will still accommodate the buttons on the toolbar.

Saving a toolbar

  1. Click the Save button on the Toolbar editor toolbar.

    -or-

    From the File menu, choose Save.

  2. If you are saving a new toolbar, complete the Save As dialog box.

    -or-

    If you are saving an existing toolbar, the toolbar is saved under its current name and remains open until you close it.

Saving a toolbar under a different name

  1. From the File menu, choose Save As.

  2. Complete the Save As dialog box.

    The toolbar remains open until you close it.

Exiting the Toolbar editor

  1. Choose from any of the following options:

    From the File menu, choose Exit.

    -or-

    From the Control menu, choose Close.

    -or-

    Double-click the Control-menu icon.

    -or-

    Press ALT+F4.

    You will be prompted to save any changes you have made to any open toolbar. If this product is being run programmatically by another application, it closes when you close the last open session or editor.
