Changing 5250 Color Settings

You can change the colors used in a display session to assist in identifying types of host data or just to make the screen easier to view. For example, you can use higher contrast colors for text and backgrounds.After changing the colors for your display session screens, you can save these changes as part of a scheme. These color scheme can be assigned to specific sessions or specific host screens in a session. In this way, you can easily differentiate session and host screens that are used for different purposes. Extra! has several pre-made color schemes which you can use as is or modify to your liking.

The 5250 Settings - Colors General Page

Use this dialog box to change the colors of your display screen, and to create or edit color schemes that you can then attach to any display session or host screen.

To change 5250 screen colors

  1. From the Options menu, choose Settings.

  2. From the Categories list, choose Colors.

  3. From the Scheme list, select a scheme to modify or use for this display session.

  4. In the monitor graphic on the General page, select the host color you want to change or use the list below the graphic.

    NOTE:To change the host background color, select Background from the list below the graphic.

  5. From the color "chips" next to the monitor, select the color you want to map the selected host color.

    The item mapped changes to the new color on the monitor.

  6. Choose Apply or OK.

Select options for color schemes.

Scheme

Select a pre-defined group (scheme) of Color settings that will be applied to this session. The list includes those schemes provided with Extra!, and the schemes you have created or modified.

Save As Button

Organizes your current color settings by saving them as a Color scheme.

Delete Button

Deletes the Color scheme selected in the Scheme list box.

Host Monitor and Item List

Shows the colors and display areas that can be mapped to other colors. Once you have mapped an item on this list using the Host list box and the Mapping palette, that item displays in the new color.

Mapping Palette

Sets the color of the item currently selected on the "host monitor" graphic.

To create a 5250 color scheme

  1. From the Options menu, choose Settings.

  2. From the Categories list, choose Colors.

  3. Map the colors that you want to change.

  4. Choose the Save As button.

  5. In the Save Scheme dialog box, enter the name of your new scheme and choose the Local or Remote option button, then choose OK.

    NOTE:The path for Local copy is a default setting. The path for Remote copy can be set using Options, Global Preferences.

To delete a 5250 color scheme

  1. From the Options menu, choose Settings.

  2. From the Categories list, choose Colors.

  3. In the Scheme list box, choose the scheme you want to delete.

  4. Choose the Delete button, then choose OK.

Securing 5250 Colors

When you secure colors, it removes Colors from the Categories list in the Options Settings dialog box. The user can no longer map colors or create color schemes.
