Settings - Productivity Auto Expand Page

Auto Expand allows you to pre-set acronyms or shortcuts for long words, phrases, or complex repeat commands. When you have set the abbreviations and expansions, you can type the shortcut on the host screen and it will automatically be expanded to the desired word or phrase, dramatically reducing the number of keystrokes required to execute tasks or enter host data. Available in 3270 and 5250 sessions only.

If you prefix an acronym to be automatically expanded with a character or characters not typically in the first position in a real word, for example, =, !, or ^, the word is left as is.

NOTE:Spaces are not permitted in the Abbreviation text box.

Description

Auto Expand Settings

Set abbreviations and the corresponding expansions to long words or phrases.

Abbreviation

The acronym or shortcut to be entered on the host screen. The shortcut is expanded to the long word, phrase, or command entered in the Expansion field.

Abbreviation Text Box

Type the acronym or shortcut to be entered on the host screen. The shortcut is expanded to the long word, phrase, or command entered in the Expansion field. Spaces are not permitted in the Abbreviation text box.

Expansion

The long word, phrase, or command to be associated with the acronym or shortcut entered in the Abbreviation field.

Expansion Text Box

Type the long word, phrase, or command to be associated with the acronym or shortcut entered in the Abbreviation field. You need type only the acronym or shortcut.

Add button

Click to add the paired abbreviation and expanded long word, phrase, or command to the Auto Expand dictionary, which is shared across all sessions and host types.

Edit button

Click to edit the selected abbreviation and/or corresponding expansion.

Delete button

Choose to remove the selected abbreviation and corresponding expansion.

To configure Auto Expand settings

  1. From the Edit or Options menu, choose Settings.

  2. From the Categories list, click the Productivity icon to open the Settings - Productivity dialog box.

  3. From the Auto Expand page, under Auto Expand Settings in the Abbreviation field, type an abbreviation, acronym, or shortcut.

  4. In the Expansion field, type a corresponding long word, phrase, or command.

  5. Click the Add button to add the paired abbreviation and expanded long word, phrase, or command to the Auto Expand dictionary, which is shared across all sessions and host types.

  6. Click the Apply and OK buttons.
