The Settings - General Page (Send)

The options in the General page control the characteristics of an AS/400 file that you create or replace when you send a PC file to the AS/400. The options available depend on whether you choose to replace an existing member, create a file and member, or create a member. Use this dialog box to specify how you want data handled when you are sending a PC file to the AS/400.

Action	Choose an action from the list, as described below. Available Options: Replace Existing Member : Overwrite existing data on the AS/400. This option does not allow you to create a new file or member. Append to Existing Member : Append data to an existing AS/400 file. Create Member : Create a new member in an existing AS/400 file. You are not allowed to overwrite any existing AS/400 data, which ensures that you won't inadvertently replace something on the AS/400 system. Create File and Member :Create a new AS/400 file, and send the PC file into it. Transferring data this way ensures that data already stored on the AS/400 system is not replaced by data from the PC.
Based on Filename (Library/File)	Specifies the file on the AS/400 that contains the field descriptions for the file that is being created.
File Authority	Specifies the level of access allowed to other users for the file you are creating. Select from the options listed below.

Available Options:

File Type	Specifies the type of PC file you are sending to the AS/400. You can select either Source File or Data File. The Source File type applies to files containing source code, such as a CL program. The Data File type applies to files containing tabular data, such as a database file.
Record Length	Specifies the logical record length for the file, where the value is the number of characters in each record. The acceptable range of values is based on the selected record format. The default record length is 0 bytes. If the record format is variable or fixed, enter a value of 5 to 32767 (inclusive). If you are appending to an existing file, the record length is ignored. For most file transfers, you won't need to change this option.

File Type

Specifies the type of PC file you are sending to the AS/400. You can select either Source File or Data File. The Source File type applies to files containing source code, such as a CL program. The Data File type applies to files containing tabular data, such as a database file.

Record Length

Specifies the logical record length for the file, where the value is the number of characters in each record. The acceptable range of values is based on the selected record format. The default record length is 0 bytes. If the record format is variable or fixed, enter a value of 5 to 32767 (inclusive). If you are appending to an existing file, the record length is ignored. For most file transfers, you won't need to change this option.

Use Description File	If the file type selected in Host File Type is Data, Extra! automatically selects this option. If the file type selected in Host File Type is Source, the description file is optional.
File name	Enter a new filename or use the Browse button to locate an existing file.
Browse	Choose to search for a specific PC file.
