Characters

The elementary symbols of the SQL language are ASCII characters -- which may be classified as letters, digits and special characters -- plus non-English characters (or extended character sets) provided by IBM standard code pages.

• Letters

  These are the letters of the alphabet (A-z). Letters are stored as entered by the user, however the sort sequence used for ordering and comparing data (including case sensitivity) is set by the XDB Server administrator for a particular location. A user can use the location default or define a special sort sequence.

• Digits

  These are the numeric characters between 0 and 9.

• Special Characters

  These are all characters other than letters and digits.

• Extended Character Sets

  These are non-English characters.
