A location is a collection of tables, databases and related objects organized in a structured fashion. An XDB Server database system can have multiple locations, all managed by the same XDB Server. Through the use of a three-part naming scheme and other security measures, users can access more than one location at a time, as well as access remote locations, which are managed by other copies of an XDB Server, or by DB2 (accessed through XDB Link). The current location is set using the SET LOCATION TO or the CONNECT statement.
In order to operate, the XDB Server requires a SYSTEM location, which contains information on other locations, as well as security information. It is strongly recommended that you store your own data in a location other than the SYSTEM location.
