Naming Conventions

Restriction: This topic applies to Windows environments only.

On an XDB Server, database objects are assigned names, or identifiers, made up of ASCII characters (with the option of specifying extended character sets). Naming conventions depend on the object being named. The following list defines the terms used for certain types of database object names. Keep in mind that a short identifier is up to 8 characters long, while a long identifier is up to 18 characters long.
