Alias

Restriction: This topic applies to Windows environments only.

An alias is an alternate one-part name for the three-part name of a table or view. An alias can be assigned to a table in the current location or in a remote location. This differs from a synonym, which can rename an object only in the current location. Aliases can be used by anyone, while synonyms can only be used by the AuthID that created them.

For example, the one-part name, EMPLOYEE, can be created as an alias for the three-part name, TUTORIAL.TUTORIAL.EMPLOYEE. Thereafter, the alias, EMPLOYEE , can be used to reference TUTORIAL.TUTORIAL.EMPLOYEE.
