Import Menu

Restriction: This topic applies to Windows environments only.

The Import menu appears in the title bar when an Import window is active. The following functions are available when importing most source file types into XDB Server table definitions:

Run After you have entered all required information on the Import windows, starts importing your source file into the desired table definition. Optionally, you can click the Run button from the toolbar. When the process is completed, the system shows the number of records imported in the status bar at the bottom of the window. You can then process another file.
End Current Allows you to abort an import operation while it is running. Data that was already imported up to that point remains imported. When you select this command while running an import batch file that has several transactions, the transaction currently running is ended and the next transaction is started.
End All Aborts all batch processing when you have more than one transaction in an Batch Import file.
Clear Form Clears all the current import specifications from the Import window. Values are set to their user-defined defaults as specified in the Defaults dialog box.
Recalculate When you select a source file to import, automatically calculates a table definition for the data (except for the DSNTIAUL format). This command allows you to prompt the system to reanalyze the currently selected source file and get the system to suggest a table definition. This gives you the ability to revert to the original interpretation of the file's table definition. If you are creating a new table, you can then redefine any fields that are not grayed out in the table-definition display area.
Options Displays the Options dialog box, which allows you to customize your import processes. You can set the import speed to run in Normal or Engine Direct Write modes. You can also write errors to a log file and write records containing errors to a log file.

You can also set error handling options that allow you to:

  • Skip any invalid data and go on to the next record.
  • Insert NULL in fields when invalid data is encountered if the field is nullable.
  • Quit the current import process and continue with the next if an error is encountered.
  • End all Batch Import processing.
Defaults Displays the Default Settings dialog box. The defaults consist of preset parameters. You can use this command to set format parameters of your own, or you can use the XDB Server defaults when you click the Defaults button. Default settings can be provided for Free-format ASCII, Fixed-format ASCII, and DSNTIAUL formats.
