Inserting New Records

Restriction: This topic applies to Windows environments only.

SQLWizard allows you to type in the values for a new record by moving to the blank record provided at the end of every Result window or by using Data Entry mode. If you are working with a large result set, and do not want to take the time to move to the end of the result set, you can switch to Data Entry mode, which shows only newly inserted records.

To insert a record in a result window:

  1. Make certain you are in Edit mode by checking the Allow Editing command in the Record menu.
  2. Click the New command from the Record menu. This will move the cursor to a blank record at the end of the result set, marked with an @ symbol.
  3. Begin typing the data for the new record. As you type, a new blank record is appended at the end of the result set, so that you will be ready to insert the next record.
  4. Move out of the current record to insert it into the database.

To insert records in Data Entry mode:

Data Entry mode provides you with a special view of a Result window that only shows newly inserted records. All existing records are temporarily hidden from view.

  1. Make certain that you are in Edit mode by checking the Allow Editing command on the Record menu.
  2. Click the Data Entry command from the Record menu. The Result window will be redisplayed. Initially you will only see a blank record into which you enter data for a new record.
  3. Enter data into the new record. A new blank record will appear at the bottom of the result set.
  4. As you enter the data for each record and move to the next record, the new record is inserted into the database.
