The File Menu

Restriction: This topic applies to Windows environments only.

The File menu contains commands for opening new or existing migrate files, (MIG), and other objects, as well as for printing and saving. The Exit command is located under this menu.

The File menu contains the following commands:

New Opens a new Schema Viewer window. If a Schema Viewer is already open, it is closed before the new one is opened.
Open Displays a dialog box to open existing migration (MIG) files.

When you open a MIG file, the specifications from the file replace the current migrations specifications. If you want to preserve your current specifications, save them using the Save or Save As command before opening a MIG file.

Close Closes the active window.
Save Saves your current Migrate specifications to the open MIG file. (A MIG file records your table, query and option choices so that you can rerun a migration without having to respecify it manually.)
Note:

You must activate the Schema Viewer to use the Save command. If the Catalog Browser or a Query window is active, the Save command is grayed.

If Migrate specifications have not yet been saved, the Save command displays the Specify Batch File dialog box for you to specify a directory and file name.

Migrate specifications can be saved only after you have completed the Table Options dialog box.

Save As Displays the Save As dialog box to save the current Migrate specifications to a new MIG file. (A MIG file records your table, query and option choices so that you can rerun a migration without having to respecify it manually.)

The Save As command can also be used to save the contents of a Query window to an SQL file. If a Query window is active when you select Save As, you can select *.SQL in the List Files of Type field to save the active query to an SQL script file, or you can select *.MIG to save all migration specifications to a MIG file.

Migrate specifications can be saved only after you have completed the Table Options dialog box.

Execute Batch Runs a migration that has been saved to a MIG file. This command displays the Select Batch File dialog box from which you can select the MIG file you want to run. When you click OK, the migration is immediately executed.

Running a migration with the Execute Batch command does not affect the current migration specifications.

Print Prints the contents of the active window. The contents of the Query window, the SQL window and Migrate report windows (such as an Impact Analysis Report) can be printed. To print a Migrate report, you must first open it using the report commands on the View menu (e.g., the Post Execution Analysis command).

Selecting Print displays a dialog box, letting you specify the pages and number of copies you want to print.

Exit Exits the program. Before exiting, Migrate prompts you to save any open windows that have changed.
