Turning Security On

Restriction: This topic applies to Windows environments only.

The XDB Server provides various levels of security, including the ability to turn security on or off. When the XDB Server is initially installed, security is turned off by default. With security off, the system does not require a valid user ID or password to sign on to the system, nor does it check to see whether a user has privileges to perform an operation.

Security is turned on or off through the Configuration Utility. Turning security on or off is usually the responsibility of one of the database or system administrators, rather than of the individual user.

When you turn security on from a client you can also define a password enforcement level, which establishes rules for creating passwords, including password length, and permitted characters.

Once security is turned on you will usually be required to provide a valid user ID and password before you can connect to the system.

If security is on you must have authority to perform certain tasks.
