Defining Remote DRDA(APPC) Connection Types

Use the following procedure to complete the Location Configuration dialog box if you are using an SNA connection to access DB2.

To define a DRDA(APPC) connection

  1. Select DRDA(APPC) from the Connection Type list box.
  2. In the DRDA Setup group box, specify the Package Name and Collection Identifier of the package that XDB Link will use to pass dynamic SQL to DB2. If your DBA or XDB administrator has already created a package on the host for XDB Link, make sure that you enter the package name and collection ID as it has been specified on the host.
  3. Note:

If you have an earlier version of XDB Link, give this version a new package name. We recommend that you adopt a package naming convention that includes the XDB Link version number-- for example, XLNK600, XLNK601, XLNK602. In a multiple-gateway environment, this allows XDB Links with older software to continue to function. It also preserves the original package name in case you want to revert to the earlier version of XDB Link software.

  4. In the APPC Setup group box, set the following values:
In this field... Specify the following...
Local LU Alias The name that represents this machine in its local SNA communications configuration.

This value must match the Local LU Alias that you assigned to this computer when you configured its SNA software.

Worksheet row D15, E19, F13, or H5, depending on which SNA server you use.

Partner LU Alias The name that represents the remote APPC LU in this machine's local SNA communications configuration.

This value must match the Partner (or Remote) LU Alias you assigned to the host LU when you configured the SNA software on this machine.

Worksheet row D20, E27F16, or H12, depending on which SNA server you use.

Mode Name IBMRDB or the name of an independent LU6.2 mode definition that you have specified in the mode table (MODETAB) associated with this machine's LU definition in VTAM.

If you use your own mode definition, it must support parallel sessions.

    VTAM worksheet row A6

    Transaction ID X'07F6C4C2'
  5. Modify other settings as you need or accept the defaults. See the topic Location Configuration Window for information about the Location Configuration dialog box.
    Note:

The host code page values are the current default settings. The actual code page values used for this connection are dynamically determined when XDB Link connects with this remote host. (See Code Mappings for more information regarding host code pages.)

  6. Click Update to add this location to XDB Link.
  7. Click Close to close the Location Configuration dialog box.
