Micro Focus has its own file handler called Micro Focus ISAM that it has developed and enhanced for over two decades to provide file processing support for all Micro Focus COBOL-based applications. Within version 8.1 of Open PL/I we have therefore switched to using this core technology from Micro Focus rather than relying on the 3rd party file handler for Indexed files that was used originally within Open PL/I.
This will enable Micro Focus to provide ongoing support for all the file processing requirements of our Open PL/I customers from a single technology shared with all Micro Focus COBOL customers, but it does require data to be unloaded from original files formats and loaded into new Micro Focus file formats.
