Introduction

The Remote Job Step Execution (RJSE) facility enables execution of one or more steps of a job on a remote z/OS host. It automatically uploads and downloads required files as necessary with an end result the same as when all steps are executed locally.

Without the help of RJSE, you must execute a job step remotely if the resources required by the step are only available at the remote location. These resources could be any or all of the following:

• Program(s), including those executed by the step that are either not available locally or are available locally but do not provide the required functions.
• Special subsystems
• Proprietary packages
• Certain devices such as printers
• Data, including data that is:
  • Too large to move
  • Heavily accessed
  • Stored in a proprietary format (for example, HISAM database)
  • On a special device
