Configuring an Enterprise Server for a CICS service

When you add an enterprise server instance using Enterprise Server Administration, configure it as follows:

• Set the Working Mode to 32-bit or 64-bit, depending on your platform.
• Set the Server Type to Micro Focus Enterprise Server with Mainframe Subsystem Support.
• For screen-based CICS applications, set the number of Server Execution Processes to be twice as many as the peak number of concurrent service requests you anticipate receiving.
• For commarea-based CICS applications, set the number of Server Execution Processes to be the same as the peak number of concurrent service requests you anticipate receiving.
• Set the port for the TN3270 listener.

Further configure the enterprise server as follows:

• If you want to debug your application when it is invoked from a service interface request, check Allow Dynamic Debugging. Optional.
• Check Mainframe Subsystem Support enabled.
• Set the System Initialization Table to IMTKCICS.
• Set the port for the Endpoint Address for the Web Services and J2EE Listener to match the Service endpoint URL set in your service interface properties. The default Service endpoint URL is http://localhost:9003.
  Note: For a Web Service, if you do not specify an endpoint URL, the underlying communications calls resolve the service automatically regardless of the port setting of the Web Service and J2EE listener.
• Point the Transaction Path to your program executables.
• Point the File Path to your data files.
• Point the Map Path to your BMS modules (.mod files).
• Point the Resource Definition File Path to your resource definition (.rdf) file.
• Update your application's existing resource definition files to include resource definitions that are required for CICS services. To do this, use the caspcupg utility, located in your %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Micro Focus\Enterprise Developer\bin directory. Execute the utility from anEnterprise Developer command prompt as follows:
  • Windows-based systems

    caspcupg /dp=resourcedefinitionpath /o

    Where resourcedefinitionpath is the path to your resource definition (.rdf) file.

  • UNIX-based systems

    caspcupg /r regionname /dp=resourcedefinitionpath /o

    Where regionname is the name of your CICS region, and resourcedefinitionpath is the path to your resource definition (.rdf) file.

  Caspcupg writes a list of updated or added resources to the screen and to a log file.

• After updating the resource definition files, add the DFHBRDG group to your startup list. This is contained in the IMTKCICS system initialization table that we supply.
