About this Release
SLM 2.3.0 is the version that immediately follows 2.2.0.
All of the features, changes, and fixes that were made in 2.x are included in 2.3.0.
SLM 2.3.0 is backwards compatible and can be used with any existing product that requires an SLM server.

SLM 2.3.0 is supported on the following server platforms:

- Solaris 10 and 11 (64-bit SPARC)

SLM 2.3.0 is compatible with the following Micro Focus products:
- Dimensions CM 2009 R2 or later
- PVCS Version Manager 8.1.4 or later
- SBM 2008 or later
- Dimensions RM 2010 R1 or later
IPv6 communication to an SLM 2.3.0 server is only supported with the following Micro Focus products:
- Dimensions CM 14.1.0.3 or later
- PVCS Version Manager 8.5.2 or later
- SBM 10.1.5 or later
- Dimensions RM 12.2 or later
What's New
The following features have been added in SLM 2.3.0.
- The Java Runtime Environment (JRE) has been updated to Java 8.
- Stop and start the server from the user interface.
- View assigned named licenses and concurrent licenses that are in use.
- Sort by feature name.
- Seat licenses and Other licenses are now displayed in separate columns.
- Use SMTP servers that require authentication and/or SSL.
- Send emails to multiple recipients and change the subject line.
- Send test messages to validate email changes before applying them.
Installing
For information about installing, see the SLM Installation Guide.
SLM does not ship with Java for Solaris and the installer will prompt you for the location of Java 8. If the server has Java 8 installed on it, specify that location. If not, download and install a Java 8 JRE from Oracle and specify that location.

Note:
If you are running Red Hat Enterprise Linux, execute the following command to ensure that the i686 Linux Standard Base (LSB) Core support libraries are installed (if not the SLM server will not start): :
yum install libstdc++.i686 redhat-lsb-core.i686
If you want to use the GUI, execute the following:
yum install libstdc++.i686 libXext.i686 libXtst.i686 libXrender.i686 redhat-lsb-core.i686
If you are running AIX, ensure you are using OS level 7100-03 or newer for AIX 7.1, and OS level 6100-07 or newer for AIX 6.1.
Upgrading
- Stop the SLM Server service or process.
- (Windows only) Uninstall all previous versions of SLM. The license and configuration files are retained. To uninstall the Windows 64-bit version of SLM 2.1.5, follow the instructions in this knowledgebase article: http://knowledgebase.serena.com/InfoCenter/index?page=content&id=S140838
- During the installation:
- Choose an installation directory.
- If the previous release of SLM was not installed in the default directory, to preserve the configuration install SLM 2.3.0 in the same directory.
- Optionally keep your current licensing configuration.
If you backed up your previous version of SLM but deleted all the files in the installation directory before installing SLM 2.3.0, you can restore your licenses and configuration by selectively restoring the following files:
- serena.lic
- licmgr.ini
- users.lst
- merant.opt
Note: Your backup may not include all these files.
