J2EE clients run in a J2EE application server such as IBM WebSphere or Oracle WebLogic. When a service is processing requests from a J2EE client, the J2EE application server can be a transaction manager coordinating updates to all the resources involved in a transaction. In this situation, the Enterprise Server instance behaves like a resource manager and responds to commit and rollback requests from the J2EE application server, whether the COBOL service is container-managed or application-managed.
