An ODBC data source name is used to refer to the database, indirectly through the Relativity catalog.
To set up a new data source:
- Start the
Relativity Designer.
If you are prompted to log on to an existing database, click
Cancel.
The
Relativity Designer window opens.
- On the
File menu, click
Create New Data Source.
The
Create New Data Source dialog box is displayed.
- Select the type of data source:
- Select one of
File Data Source,
User Data Source (only available to the current Windows account on this machine),
System Data Source (available to all Windows accounts on this machine).
- Click
Next.
- Select the data source driver:
- Select the required driver:
Relativity (*.rcg),
Relativity for ADO (*.rcg),
Relativity Client, or
Relativity Client for ADO, then click
Next.
Note: For use with
Relativity Designer, we recommend the
Relativity (*.rcg) or the
Relativity Client drivers.
- Click
Finish.
The
DSN tab of the
Relativity dialog box is displayed.
- In the
Data Source Name field, enter a name for the data source.
- In the
Description field, enter a description (optional).
- If the
Relativity (*.rcg) driver was selected in step 4, in the
Catalog section, do one of the following:
- To use an existing catalog file, click
Select Catalog, navigate to an
.rcg file, then click
Open.
- To create a new catalog file, click
Create Catalog, navigate to its required location, enter a file name, then click
Open.
- If the
Relativity Client driver was selected in step 4, do the following:
- If the
Server Name field does not contain the name of the data server, click the
Servers button, then click
New and enter the network name of the data server machine.
- In the
Server Name field, select the name of the machine on which the data server is running.
- In the
Server DSN field, select the name of the server data source.
- Click
OK.
Note: These options are the minimum required to create the data source; for a more comprehensive explanation of all the options
on this dialog box, refer to the
Relativity Data Manager Help file.
The
Open Existing Data Source dialog box is displayed. If necessary, locate the name of the new data source and select it.
- Click
Connect.
- If this is a new catalog, it is now open.
- If this is an existing catalog, and security has been defined, the
Database Logon dialog box is displayed. Enter valid logon credentials, then click
Login to open the catalog.
