17.3 Creating a Platform

You can use the Platforms page to add target platforms for a project. PTM automatically discovers and adds the resources for the platform.

NOTE:If a PlateSpin Migrate Connector is available to the project and the target platform environment is supported, discovery creates related Host, Network, Datastore, and Resource Pool resources if they do not already exist.

  1. In the Web Interface toolbar, select Platforms.

  2. Click Create to open the Create Platform dialog.

  3. Specify the properties for the Platform.

    See Section 17.1.1, Platform Properties.

  4. If necessary, you can create a new credential to use for the target platform.

    1. On the Credential drop-down list, click Create.

    2. Specify the authentication information for the Credential Type, based on the specified Platform Type.

    3. Click Save to create the Credential resource and add it in the Create Platform dialog.

  5. Click Save to create the Platform.

    If discovery is available, the platform’s Host, Network, Datastore, and Resource Pool resources are automatically created.

  6. (Optional) Visit the Hosts, Networks, Datastores, and Resource Pool tabs to visually verify information about the newly discovered resources for the platform.

  7. Click Close to exit the dialog.
