Adding a New Path

From the Connection Type section users can add a path for new ALC Terminal Sessions.

Connection Type

Select from the dropdown the desired transport type. The available options are INT1, AIRGATE, and MATIP. Each Connection Type has unique configuration options to be added. See each section below for a additional documentation.

Connection Type - INT1

Option Description
Device Type Displays the terminal/device type string that is negotiated with the host server.
Use ID Management When enabled, this option is available when using a centralized management server with ID Manager installed. ID Manager configures and monitors a pool of resource IDs that a client can use to establish a host session, thereby eliminating the need for administrators to create configurations for every client.
Terminal ID Type the terminal identifier (typically up to 8 alphanumeric characters) to use for the communication session associated with this path.

Each Terminal ID should be unique within the entire network. The Terminal ID is also known as a TID or PID.

If you're using Connection Manager and data appears in this text box, the path is a single connection path. This text box is dimmed if data appears in the Pooled Terminal IDs list box.
Initial Transaction Type the character, word, or phrase that the PC will send to the host when communication with the host is first established (up to 15 characters).

This parameter is optional and is primarily used with TIP. For example, you might type ^ to run MAPPER. This parameter can also be used to transmit passwords.
Select Channel Select Add to type the name of the channel to add or configure (up to 15 characters).

All INT1 channels use the same environments. When you add an environment, you add it to all channels. When you delete an environment, you delete it from all channels. Only the settings on the Channels tab (such as the commands to use to establish and end communication with the host) are unique to each channel.

NOTE: You cannot delete the default INT1 channel. This channel is always present.
Select Environment When you configure INT1, you must create at least one environment.

Each environment includes the following information:

  • The word or phrase that the PC must send to the host to establish a connection with the host and access a particular host operating mode or application (such as TIP, Demand)
  • Any initial transaction associated with the host application you want to run (for example, to run MAPPER, you transmit the ^ symbol)
  • The connection to use
When you configure your INT1 paths, each path will use a particular environment.
Auto-connect Select this option to automatically re-establish communication with the host.
Path Description The Path name and Path description will populate based on the selections thus far. Both fields can be edited to include more identifiable terms.
