Composing International Characters in a VT session

Compose is a VT feature that lets you enter more international characters than those marked on your keyboard. A compose sequence combines two or three keystrokes to form one character. This display provides compose functions similar to a real VT terminal.

The compose feature is available only in VT420 and VT340 sessions.

To compose characters (VT session)

  • Press then release the F3 key, then press the two characters specified in the Table of International Characters or Table of Special Characters to produce the desired character.

Compose is the default action for the F3 key. If you change the assignment for the F3 key in the Display Keyboard page you will lose access to the Compose function, unless you map it to another key. If you try to compose a character that is not in the currently selected character set, that character is ignored. The compose feature is available only in VT420 and VT340 sessions.

To enter the Euro character (VT session)

You can enter the euro character regardless of whether or not your operating system supports it. If your operating system does not support the euro character, you will not be able to copy and paste the character between applications.

NOTE:This feature is available only in VT420 and VT340 sessions.

  1. In the Display General page under User Preferred Character Set, select either ISO Latin-9 or PC Multilingual Euro (858).

  2. If you want to be able to print the euro character, in the Display Printer page under Font Selection, click the Fonts button and select either Arial terminal or Lucida for Attachmate.

  3. Close the Settings dialog box.

  4. Press then release the F3 key.

  5. Press one of the following key combinations:

    C =

    c =

    E =

    e =

NOTE:In SCO-ANSI, AT386, and WYSE sessions, you can press ALT+0128 to enter the euro character. The ALT+keypad method of generating special characters works in all types of asynchronous sessions.

Table of International Characters (VT Compose Table I)

The following table shows international characters you can compose in uppercase and lowercase. For uppercase characters, hold down SHIFT as you press the other keys. Except where "in order" is noted, the order in which you press the keys does not matter.
