6.4 File Transfer Schemes

A file transfer scheme specifies the way a particular file will be transferred, the type of translation, and any special parameters required by the receiving environment. Schemes allow you to save all of these settings in a file that you can reuse. This saves time and ensures consistency if you repeatedly run file transfers that require the same transfer settings. File transfer schemes are saved in files with an .EIS extension.

NOTE:For IND$FILE file transfers you can save a scheme to a local or a remote location. Saving schemes to a remote location allows you to share schemes. The local Schemes directory is the default location.

Schemes include the option to set send and receive parameters for each host type. The send and receive options you set for one host type are different from the options for other host types. However, you can select options for all three environments in each file transfer scheme so that you can use the same scheme regardless of environment constraints.

Access the File Transfer Settings dialog box by choosing the Settings button from the Transfer File dialog box, or by choosing Settings from the Edit or Options menu.

You can do one of the following:

  • Choose an existing scheme to edit.

  • Choose the Save As button and type a new scheme name to create a new scheme. The new scheme will have the settings of the scheme you copied, which you can then change to suit your needs.

  • Remove an existing scheme
