Diagnostics are essential to troubleshooting your production systems running on
Enterprise Server. We recommend that you configure each
enterprise server region running either a development or a production application as follows. This ensures that you have a good starting point for
problem determination as and when you encounter one:
- Enable Dump on System Abend
- The server produces a dump if one of its own processes, such as a service execution process, terminates abnormally. The dump
information can help you to determine the cause of the abnormal termination. To enable this setting:
- In ESCWA, click
NATIVE.
- In the navigation pane, expand
Directory Servers > Default, and then select your enterprise server instance.
- On the
GENERAL drop-down list, select
Diagnostics.
- Check
Dump on System Abend, and then click
APPLY.
- Enable Auxiliary Tracing
- The server flushes trace records to disk before the trace table is overwritten.
Note: Be sure you have adequate disk space available, because this file can become very big very quickly. If you have a high-activity
system use this field in conjunction with
Maximum Diagnostics File Size to limit the disk usage. Also, this setting can affect performance.
To enable this setting:
- In ESCWA, click
NATIVE.
- In the navigation pane, expand
Directory Servers > Default, and then select your enterprise server instance.
- On the
GENERAL drop-down list, select
Diagnostics.
- Check
Auxiliary Trace Active, and then click
APPLY.
- Enable core dumps
- See
To configure an
enterprise server instance to produce a core dump for instructions.
