System Architecture

A system that connects a mainframe CICS region and an Enterprise Server CICS region uses communications server software, for example to manage SNA communications.

• In the Windows environment, Microsoft Host Integration Server.
• In a Sun Solaris UNIX environment, SNAP-IX

An installation typically consists of:

• A mainframe running CICS applications.
• A PC or a UNIX communications server with a dedicated SNA link to the mainframe. This runs communications server software, and acts as an SNA manager.
• One or more client PCs or UNIX machines running communications server SNA client software, and Enterprise Server COBOL systems.
