The Directories page displays a table of all the other instances of Directory Server that are running on the local network
and that are using the default Directory Server port (86). For each instance, it shows:
- The version number of Directory Server
- The IP address of the machine on which it is running
- The DNS-resolved hostname of the machine on which it is running. Next to the hostname is a right-pointing arrow, which you
can click to open a new
Enterprise Server Administration window on your machine, giving you access to the other Directory Server and its objects without having to remember its IP
address.
Note: You should take care to ensure that an appropriate level of security has been set up for all the instances of Directory Server
on a local network, to reduce the possibility of unauthorised access using the Directories page. For more on security and
the options available, see
Introduction to
Enterprise Server Security.
