To help you resolve any problems you might encounter when using Open PL/I, this section provides information about the most
commonly encountered issues and how to resolve them. We suggest that you follow these steps:
- 1: Eliminate Enterprise Server JCL configuration problems
- The first step in analyzing a problem with Enterprise Server/JCL is to eliminate any configuration problems. Configuration
problems are commonly caused by incorrectly set options in ESCWA and incorrectly set environment variables. For example,
PLI Support must be enabled on the ESCWA
PLI tab.
Configuration problems have been largely eliminated when you can:
- Successfully start the
enterprise server region
- Run a HelloWorld-type of program and see the output in the
JES Spool tab.
- 2: Review the failure type
- Review the information in the
Execution Problems,
Link Problems, and/or
Debugger Problems sections of this documentation to see descriptions and solutions for common problems. As you work through these sections,
keep a record of what you have tried, what works, and what does not. Also keep copies of output files generated in the process.
- 3: Use diagnostic tools
- Enterprise Developer provides several tools to help you diagnose problems. In particular, see the
PLIDUMP and
CTF Trace sections of this documentation for information to using these tools for PL/I problem determination. Be sure to keep all diagnostic
data you capture, such as console logs, PLIDUMP dump files, CTF Trace logs, and so on.
If, after following all of the suggested steps, you are still unable to resolve your problem, see
