Connection List

A list of all available connections.

Name

The data source name you specified for the connection when you created it.

Type

The type of database connection, SQL Server or DB2.

ODBC Provider

The ODBC provider to be used for the SQL Server¹. You can select from a drop-down list of installed and supported SQL Server ODBC providers. The connection is updated to use the selected provider.

Status

The last known status of the connection:

Checking	HCOSS is checking the status of the connection
OK	Able to connect
`error-message`	Unable to make the connection using the supplied information. Each connection type¹ provides detailed information as to why the connection test failed.
Unknown	Shows for newly created or imported connections when your HCOSS Automatically Test Connections option is set to False, and before you Refresh the connection for the first time

New DB2 Connection

Switch to the DB2 Connection tab to create a new DB2 connection.

New SQL Server Connection

Switch to the SQL Server Connection tab to create a new SQL Server connection.

Edit

Switch to the SQL Server Connection or DB2 Connection tab, depending on the selected connection, where you can make changes to your connection specifications.

Remove

Remove the selected connection.

Repair

Repair a connection that reports a status other than OK or Unknown for at least one connection type. SQL Server connections indicate status for 32- or 64-bit ODBC¹ and 32- or 64-bit CLR 2 or 4 ADO.NET connection types. DB2 connections indicate status for 32- or 64-bit CLR 2 or 4 ADO.NET connection types in the Status column on the Connection List.

Refresh

Update information in the Status column for the selected connection.

Refresh All

Update the information in the Status column for all connections.

System

Create a system connection, and show only system connections on the Connections List grid.

User

Create a user connection, and show only user connections on the Connections List grid.

Azure

Create an Azure SQL Database connection, and show only Azure connections on the Connections List grid.

Set

Displays a dialog box with a drop-down list of installed and supported¹ ODBC providers for SQL Server. All SQL Server connections are updated to the use the selected provider. Affects System or User SQL Server connections.

Encrypt ADO Connection Settings

Write ADO.NET connection specifications to appropriate .config files in encrypted format. Applies to System and User connection types only.

¹ ODBC provider selection for SQL Server connections applies to System or User connections. Azure connections do not use ODBC connections. The "SQL Server" ODBC provider from Microsoft is an older provider that ships with Microsoft Windows and lacks certain features available in many newer Microsoft ODBC providers. As such, it is not shown in Manage Connections ODBC drop-down selectors. Microsoft ODBC provider versions provide support for particular versions of SQL Server.
