Prerequisites

Azure Platform account. You can start with a free trial at https://azure.microsoft.com/en-gb/free/ for details on setting up an Azure Platform account.

SQL Azure server (for PaaS only). See Getting Started with SQL Azure Database using the Windows Azure Management Portal at http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/getting-started-with-sql-azure-using-the-windows-azure-platform-management-portal.aspx for details on setting up and accessing SQL Azure databases.

Azure storage account (for PaaS only). See https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/storage/ for details on how to set up an Azure storage account. You need to create a version one (Classic) storage account.

Windows Azure support for Visual Studio. This software is known by various names, such as Windows Azure Tools, Windows Azure SDK, or Azure Development Workload. This SDK is required on any system that deploys Enterprise Server for .NET roles to Azure.

Use the Visual Studio Installer to add the Azure Development workload to Visual Studio.
