Tutorial: IMS Screen Web Service

Takes you step by step through the process of using the Enterprise Developer Interface Mapper and Enterprise Server to create a service interface from an IMS application, deploy it as a Web service on an enterprise server region, and run the Web service from Enterprise Developer.

Prerequisite

This tutorial is a continuation of Tutorial: IMS Support, which must be completed in its entirety before commencing. See Tutorial: IMS Support for complete instructions.

Demonstration application - MFDEMO

Because this tutorial is a continuation of Tutorial: IMS Support, it uses the same MFDEMO application, IMSSupport project, and IMSDEMO enterprise server region. This tutorial also relies on the updates made to the IMS database when running the MFDEMO application as part of the IMS support tutorial.

Sequence

After completing Tutorial: IMS Support, complete this tutorial by following the instructions in these topics in the order listed:

  1. Configure IMSDEMO for an IMS Web Service
    Walks you through the process of configuring the IMSDEMO enterprise server region to prepare it for running the IMSScreenWS Web service that is deployed to it later in this tutorial.
  2. Create the IMSScreenWS Service Interface
    Provides step-by-step instructions for using Enterprise Developer and the Interface Mapper to create a Web Services type service interface from the MFS screens in the MFDEMO application.
  3. Deploy the IMSScreenWS Service Interface
    Guides you through the process of deploying the IMSScreenWS service interface as a Web service on the IMSDEMO enterprise server region.
  4. Generate Console and Windows Forms Clients
    Walks you through the process of generating a Windows Forms and a console client that can each access the IMSScreenWS Web service that is now deployed to and running on the IMSDEMO enterprise server region.
  5. Register the Proxy Library
    Provides step-by-step instructions that walk you through the process of registering the proxy library, which is required for some Windows operating systems.
  6. Run the Clients
    Takes you through the steps required to run the Windows Forms and the Console client that access the IMSScreenWS Web service running on the IMSDEMO enterprise server region.
