You can configure the order that the directive sets are applied by setting their order in the project settings, build configurations,
folder, or file level Directive Set References list.
Note: Once created, an
.mfdirset file is not automatically deleted when the directives it contained are no longer in effect: the directives are removed from
the file, but the file remains in its
.settings folder and in any directive set reference lists it was previously part of.
Project settings directive set references
To set the project level Directive Set References:
- In the Application Explorer view, right-click your project.
- Click
- Click
Add.
This opens the
Add a reference to a directive set file dialog box.
- In the
Path field, type the path to the directive set file you want to use. Alternatively, click
Browse and navigate to the file. By default, the relative path to the file is stored. If you want to store the absolute path, click
Store path as an absolute value.
- Click
Apply and Close.
Build configurations directive set references
To set the build configurations level Directive Set References:
- In the Application Explorer view, right-click your project.
- Click
- Click
Enable configuration specific settings.
- Click
Add.
This opens the
Add a reference to a directive set file dialog box.
- In the
Path field, type the path to the directive set file you want to use. Alternatively, click
Browse and navigate to the file. By default, the relative path to the file is stored. If you want to store the absolute path, click
Store path as an absolute value.
- Click
Apply and Close.
Folder Directive Set References
To set the folder level Directive Set References:
- In the Application Explorer view, right-click the folder you want to add directive set references to.

Enable folder specific settings.
- Click
Add.
