To start SQL Wizard

• From the main menu, click Tools > SQL Option for DB2 > Client > SQL Wizard.

The Connect Dialog Box

The Connect dialog box is used to specify the XDB Server you want to use with SQLWizard and to enter a password if one is required.

The Connect dialog box may or may not be displayed when you start SQLWizard, depending on certain settings you make in the Options Utility. Likewise, certain items may or may not be selectable, depending on the settings in Options.

To use the Connect dialog box:

1. Type the name of the XDB Server you want to access, or click the down arrow button next to the Server field to select an XDB Server from the drop-down list.

   To connect to an XDB Server that you never used before, run the Options utility before starting SQLWizard. Use the Connect tab in Options to set up the communication protocol, client node name, and default location.

   If the server name is displayed as a label rather than in a text-entry field, you cannot select or type a different server name.

2. In the Location field, type the name of the location you want to access, or click the Browse button to select a location from the Browse Dialog box. The Browse Dialog box shows all locations known to the selected XDB Server.
   Note:

   Each time you access the Browse Dialog box, the selected XDB Server is checked for the list of all known locations available and you are logged in to the specified XDB Server with the current AuthID and password. If security is on, you must have SELECT privileges on the XDB Server's system location for this feature to operate correctly. (For more information, refer to the description of the WSQL043 message in online help.)

   If you do not click the location drop-down list, the XDB Server is not accessed until you connect.

3. Type your AuthID in the Username field. If you need to access a multi-user XDB Server on the LAN, ask your XDB Server Administrator what AuthID to use.
4. If security is turned on, type your password. Asterisks (*) are displayed for each character you type to prevent others from seeing your password.
   Note: Passwords are case-sensitive; be sure to use the correct combination of upper and lower case letters.

   If security is off, the Password field will not be displayed on the Connect dialog box.

5. After making your selections, click OK to start SQLWizard and connect to the specified XDB Server and location.
   Note: If the Catalog Browser is set up to load on SQLWizard startup and the location you are trying to connect is an XDB Link location, a transaction dialog box appears. This dialog box asks you to complete the transaction to free up locks and close queries. Of the three options the dialog box presents you with, Commit and Rollback free the locks, while Proceed keeps them in place. Keeping the locks interferes with other DB2 users who are attempting to perform Data Definition Language (DDL) SQL statements.

If you enter your AuthID or password incorrectly, an error message is displayed. You have three chances to enter the correct AuthID and password.
