VSE JCL Configuration Files

At system start-up, VSE can set a number of values that are available to any job run on the system until shut down. MSS emulates this behavior with the use of a configuration file. You can use the configuration file to specify information about the following:

• Devices. These can be designated as Printers, Punches, Tapes, Readers or Disks.
• Logical Units. SYSxxx (where xxx is a 3 digit number) or one of the standard logical devices SYSIPT, SYSLST etc.
• Standard labels. Commonly-used file names and the associated data sets can be set so that no DLBL statement for this filename/data set name is necessary in the JCL decks; the file is automatically allocated.

MSS reads the configuration file at the start of each job, so if you run a job then modify the configuration file, running the job again will pick up the modified configuration file.
